Purple

There once was a Mermaid who swam through the Ocean. She had Freedom on her mind. She had vibrant water-colored images swirling around in her head that could be found painted on what she dreamed about. She left a trail of glitter-filled giggles when she exhaled. They rose to the surface and left their sparkle floating on the surface where the wind and tide could be dusted in reflection. As she swam, she felt the Ocean preserving her veins. She smiled because no one could see how she felt. It was protected and safe and belonged to her. The sea-grass waved at her from the Ocean floor. Fish, of all colors and sizes, tried to hide in her hair. They whispered to her and asked her silent questions about the treasure she had found. She blew kisses to them and her thoughts landed softly on their skin. They swam off delighted to spread the news with the coral and other secret-keeping life forms that lived anchored to the reef. She blinked and music played that only she and the Ocean could hear. Every now and then, she would swim to the surface just long enough to absorb the sun’s energy through her skin. She much preferred the way time happened differently within the Ocean when she was lost in it. She swam a spiral current that mixed the warmth of red with the coolness of blue. Together, they made her favorite color and she breathed in purple…. Deeply.
